[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Satin matte is the best of all worlds in terms of finish. It’s not a skin deadening flat matte but neither is it the oil-prone’s nightmare of ‘dewy’. It’s a finish that allows your complexion some low key natural light reflection while giving light to medium coverage that’s specifically formulated for oily and combination skin types.
I’m neither oily nor combination (although my nose has got oilier of late) and still this feels like a comfort fit on my skin. However, the reason it’s weighted towards oily and combination is because the formula contains UP302 (Clinique’s exclusive molecule that I have never heard of until now), vitamin C, salicylic acid, and hyaluronic acid. It’s also SPF20 and is oil-free.
Texturally, serum foundations are the cashmere of bases. They’re smooth on the skin and light in weight. Speaking of weight, you need only a very, very small amount of this to cover your whole face – part of me wonders if this started its life as a full wear foundation but the trends changed so hard in favour of lighter coverage that it was re-positioned. Half a pump should do. Clinique always has impressive stats – 91% of those tested (221 women over 8 weeks) reported reduced blemish marks and dark spots which is good going for a foundation.
As you can see, there are concealers to complement each of the 40 available shades. Speaking of, to shade match without going instore, you can scan the QR code from the website with your mobile phone to let the shade finder guide you to the colour for you. I’ve been testing out shade finder apps for different brands and am finding them effective although I haven’t tested this particular one.
The two shades I have are WH 16 Buff and CN 40 Cream Chamois (above) with the latter being the right shade for my tone at the moment. The Clinique Even Better Clinical Serum Foundation is £34 HERE, non-affiliate HERE.

Thanks for this Jane, I’m looking for a new foundation and this sounds up my street.
I really like it 🙂
I must try this, it sounds lovely!
I really like the look of this. As an oily person it’s really hard to find a light base that doesn’t slide off by 11am!
Well, I must stress I’m not oily myself (only on nose a bit) but I’ve heard nothing but good things from those who are x
