The only fashion brand that’s really speaking to me at the moment is H&M – they’re just so good at creating clothes for all shapes and sizes and that don’t break the bank. The last ‘luxury’ item I bought was a combat print Brodie Cashmere sweater and that was in the sale that they did to raise money for Ukraine (Trouva has a few sale items HERE). I always thought that you had to upscale your brands as you got older but the high street makes that concept redundant – my mum could not wait to hit 50 and dive into Jaeger as that age gave her permission to stop being so cautious … an upgrade was allowed. I will splash now and again (on cashmere mainly) but rarely feel I have to .

I’m just doing a quick round up of basics and neutrals from H&M (and shoes from Fitflop) so that you can add anything around them (cashmere hoodie?!) and they’re easy to wear. Kicking off with the ankle length linen trousers – seen in orange in this picture but available in black and white as well – because they have the most forgiving of waists and the ankle length makes legs like mine (i.e. short) look longer. You can wear them with flip-flops, sandals or trainers and they will look absolutely effortless. They’re £24.99 HERE in sizes xs to xxl although only the orange shade is available in the bigger sizes just now – they’ll probably restock – but that’s an example of why getting your basics now is a good idea because everyone has this exact same thought around about now and everything goes!

There’s also a linen jogger style which I love as well – these are available in xs to xxl in seven neutral shades for £24.99. If they’re a little long, just fold up the hems and they look as right like that as they do without a turn up. They’re HERE.

The reason I started this post in the first place is because – V Neck T Shirts! I so much prefer a v-neck T and I’m going to get a couple of shades of the linen jersey seen top left. It comes in xs – xxl in white, grey, beige and black and is £12.99 HERE. I like this fabric because it’s loose and drapey and doesn’t cling. On a hot day I do not want cling! A warning about the number of satin fabric trousers I’m seeing – I bought a pair and they formed round my legs like cling film. So, I took them back on the grounds that it was a level of static no hairspray could overcome. There’s also a selection of pastel shades – apricot, light blue, turquoise – in this style for £17.99 HERE. I don’t know why the price is so different. I’d also recommend, since there is so much linen about, a clothes steamer – mine was cheap as chips and it works perfectly well for the odd crinkle slay. Mine is out of stock but this one HERE is very similar.

I’ve flagged up the rose and tan Fitflops, both £80 HERE (and both also great with jeans), because they’re so seamless with these colourways but really you can go as colourful with you like and ditto that with bags, nails, sunnies and so on. The black linen shirt is the same as the one I featured in a previous post – I have worn it and worn it and bought the white version which I feel almost addicted to, so I’m actually going to get the black version too. It’s £17.99 HERE.

This is it! The cold snap (what is that all about!) means I’ve tucked it away for now – and the orange – but it brightens my day to wear it. I think the black will be lovely worn almost as a jacket over a stripe or plain vest and jeans.
