[unpaid/sample] Wow – how much better have mascaras got while we weren’t really looking? I’ve never had a bad experience with Fenty but have generally drifted away from the brand. So the Hella Thicc mascara was a nice wake up to a very good lash cover.
I think you can see that this formula adds major volume and length. I didn’t brush through to make it perfect although I could have done. This kind of mascara is more suited to the messy mascara trend (yes, there is one) – not quite clumpy but certainly ‘undone’. I like it in the same way I like black khol – that smudgy, just dredged out of a night club (as if…) kind of a look.
So now we come to the lipsticks! The Velvet Liquid Lipsticks are so intensely pigmented it’s unbelievable. All well and good for a lighter colour like C-Suite Heart below…
I’m wearing balm underneath so it has more sheen than it would normally have – mattes and velvets are not for me but if they’re for you, I think this is quite a nice neutral shade for all tones with a plushy feel. Maybe a bit on the orange side – it’s got that terracotta slant that a lot of the Charlotte Tilbury lip shades have. Boots have an offer on for £19.40 instead of £24.
This is The MVP (I’m not trendy enough to know what that means – probably just as well) and is SO red. It’s very blue toned so not really suiting my skin tone but if you love a searing, impactful, redder than red shade, it’s for you. However, taking it off is no picnic. It’s so pigment heavy that if you make a slight application error, the chances of clearing it up without drama is nil. See below.
I mean, I look like I’ve committed a murder. I like to think I know my way around a lipstick application and removal but this was a challenge. Chanel Bi-phase Eye Make Up Remover is always my hero in these circumstances – the oil in the bi-phase tends to cut through absolutely anything but it was as challenged as I was. Eventually I got there but this is a high maintenance lip product – worth it if you can put the effort in for an utterly stunning lip look, but a pass otherwise. It’s actually out of stock at Boots which is probably just as well.

That mascara looks incredible on you!!
Thank you – it’s a great mascara as long as you aren’t hung up on precision.
Wow! Hella thick lashes indeed! Right up my street! Also love my mascara here, proud and loud :). And lippie! That rich red reminds me Lisa Eldridge’s Velvet Duchess – mmmmm… Difficult to remove (yep, looks like you not just committed a murder – but also ate the evidence :))) ) – well, it means color stays through coffees and snacks? Tempting… all so tempting… Do they have somewhere money-printer in discount? 😉
haha! the Hannibal Lecter of beauty :-))
:))) Terrrrrribly attractive!
Those lashes and lip are fabulous Jane! Love that look. Out of curiosity I have checked on the meaning of MVP and it’s most valuable player, phew…
As ever a great and very fun review, I hope you managed a good cleanse! Have a lovely Friday and weekend xx
Why does everyone know this except me?!! I’d really recommend the mascara as long as you’re not a precision freak :-))
MVP might come from North American sports – Most Valuable Player. I really enjoy your blog!
Others are confirming you are right – I feel a bit silly now because I could have Googled it but had a lazy moment and didn’t! Thank you ever so much 🙂
Most Valuable Player!
I’m glad there’s another makeup wearer who chooses not matte products. I can’t believe that matte still more or less rules the day. (I wish Lisa Eldridge would bring Velvet Cinnabar out in the Lucent formula; even over a balm it’s just not my friend but the color is the best ever).
Yes, I hear you – I’ve been a long time matte loather – it’s not kind to skin anywhere on the face. Give me light, sheen and gloss any day of the week.
Excuse my interfering… Lisa has Cinnabar in form of Gloss Embrace lip gloss – and her glosses are rather saturated and very pleasant on lips. So, not exactly the lipstick, but not a matt texture at least…
It’s not interfering! I actually have one of her glosses and I like it a lot but I have a thing against red gloss of any kind. I will have to hope and wait for Cinnabar Lucent or try to make it work with the lip liner and chapstick.
Don’t worry Jane, MVP just means Most Valuable Player and I guess if a matte red lip is your go-to lip then this one could be just that 🙂 – but it would be too high-impact a look for me!
Does the mascara smudge?
All the best, Jo 🙂
Oh thanks for letting me know that – yes it’s next level impact, never mind high! No, the mascara is pretty good – no smudging at this end.
I’ve been wanting to get my hands on this mascara for a while now!
