[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Since shadow sticks are some of my very favourite beauty items, these are more than welcome. A good shadow stick is such a time saver and even though they’ve been around forever, they feel more relevant now than palettes and complicated eye looks.
I think the brand has been in an experimental phase for the past few of years trying to find their identity without their founder, so a return to popular staples is exactly what we need to see. There are ten new shades – long time Bobbi fans will find them only fractionally different to what has been before. My memory isn’t good enough to say that some are re-releases or not and let’s remember than fractional difference is what made Bobbi famous in the first place :-).
I’ve got to admit, these first four are my favourites. Moonstone is straight away the pick of the bunch (I notice Victoria Beckham has brought out a very similar shade recently) – it’s a metallic cream with a hint of silver/gold shift and it’s an instant eye brightener. Next is Sunrise Pink, a limited edition shade, which is light pink with a gold shift. Then, it’s Forest, an olive green with a hint of gold, and finally, it’s Golden Amber which is a streak of copper tinted gold.
In this line up, it’s Mica, Espresso and Mulberry.
In this picture, it’s Mulberry which is a deep, reddish brown, Mica, a frosty champagne beige (also an amazing lid brightener) and finally, Espresso which speaks for itself.
From bottom to top: Moonstone, Pink Sunrise, Forest, Golden Amber, Mica, Espresso and Mulberry.
My lids in a) Mica, b) Forest and c) Pink Sunrise. They’re £25 each HERE. I find these do live up to the long-wear title but I’d always carry one in my bag for top ups because nothing is bullet proof in the summer. If you have oily lids or lids that get more oily in the heat, use an eye primer first.

They are lovely but why even now, releasing 10(!) new shades they still playing so boringly safe?!… *here my soul cries* Where is (already classic) burgundy (if not red)? Summerish turquoise? Teal? Lighter khaki? Purple/violet? Deep blue? And I even don’t step into scary territory of neons and such. This mulberry looks still like muted dark brown… Bobbi Brown has such a good quality stuff but I think if they wanna move forward they should leave the safe haven of “50 shades of beige” (their limited collections of lipsticks fly away in a day or two – because there IS color) …
I guess it’s just their USP – but teal would be AMAZING!
Bit late to comment on this one… Anna you can try Kiko, they have similar products (33 shades on their website) and have a popping violet / lilac, turquoise, and lots of other colours. Hope this helps xx
Thanks, Chrissie! Never too late! 🙂 Def gonna have a look there (turquoise I got in soft pencil-liner form from Pupa, but the rest… ) Summer is coming and my daughter is (finally!!!) getting interested in makeup too, so…
Ooh thanks for the swatches. I have many of these shadow sticks, it’s nice to see some more shades although some are definitely familiar. Incandescent was part of the last holiday collection – it has a duo chrome shift but is quite sheer so very easy to wear. Espresso has definitely been around before. I’m very glad to see there is a Smokey Topaz shade as it used to be available in a pot version and was one of my favourite shades.
Everyone is talking about the pot versions and I can hardly remember them although I must have come across them!
I’m fairly sure I still have a Forest eyeshadow knocking around somewhere I can’t bear to part with – one of my first ‘fancy’ makeup buys as a broke student in the 00’s! These are very tempting.
They’re just so easy to use 🙂
I was just looking at eyeshadow sticks online yesterday, mostly the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks. I didn’t buy anything as I already have a few and didn’t see anything wildly different enough to warrant spending the money. This new Bobbi Brown Mica one is right up my alley and I will be buying it! It reminds me of one they did called Sand Dollar, which was one of their glass potted versions – I went through several of those.
It’s a gorgeous colour Jane – I’m sure you’ll be happy with it. Jones Road is doing similar in pots 🙂
