[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Oh hello there Rouge Dior Star! How pretty are these new lipsticks from Dior? This feels like an unexpected launch given the time of year, but I’m always a sucker for embossed lipsticks – anything that goes the extra mile to be a little bit different is good with me.
It’s a small collection with only five lipsticks – three in a velvet finish and two in metallic. As you might expect from a luxury lipstick, they’re light and unobtrusive on the lip in terms of texture, but mighty in terms of pigment. I’m not great with mattes but I can’t say I have any complaints here in terms of drying.
Rouge Dior Star is inspired by cinema – from the ‘stars’ that adorn the stick to the silver band that surrounds the CD emblem which is faceted to look similar to crystals (or diamonds!). The inner lid is red lined – maybe to represent the red carpet, I’m not sure, but it certainly does feel special.
The shades I have are: 999, Starlette and Nude Look. Starlette turns to a burnished copper on the lips – I liked it more than I thought I would because somehow it’s tone warming. Nude Look is a classic neutral shade with just the right amount of grey behind it to subdue any orange tones, while 999 is a classic Dior red with orange undertones. I should mention that these are quite perfumed in a sort of floral way that reminds me of my mum’s lipsticks from back in the day. I like it, but know that it can divide so wanted to mention it.
I do wonder if this collection was destined for a November last year launch – but either way, it goes to show that stars are fine anytime. 999 is definitely a wondrous summer shade – just wear it with no other make up at all except perhaps a little bronzer and a very light slick of mascara. Instant St Tropez :-). They’re £35 each HERE, non-affiliate HERE, and postage is free (with 2 samples on each order). If you’re thinking of gifting, there is an engraving service.
