MOAM Organics Laundry Care

[unpaid/sample] I was offered the body care from MOAM Organics to trial but I opted for the laundry care because a) it makes a good change for me, b) being more mindful about what household cleaning items I use is something I’m getting on top of at the moment and c) it’s really quite a boring category and I’m fully up for experimenting with more interesting things.  If I’m honest, Aromatherapy Associates aromatic laundry care set me off searching for alternative washing products and I absolutely love it but it’s quite expensive so common sense tells me it’s occasional rather than regular use.

This smells so fresh! It’s a combination of lavender, geranium and cedarwood oils so the effect is quite sharp and ‘forest’ like which makes it both clean smelling and relaxing. Pine isn’t listed as an aroma but the combination definitely heads it that way – put it this way, if you bathed in it you’d feel chilled, soothed and cossetted which I guess is exactly how you’d want your sheets to smell.

There is a fabric conditioner and a detergent and they’re both highly concentrated – you should be able to get around 60 washes from each pouch although I think the challenge will be not to pour too much. I err on the side of caution and am more generous than I probably should be. The experience is lovely from start to finish – as lovely as doing the laundry can be, anyway. First you have the pour (and get a big boost of scent), then the wash (I swear I could smell it from the washing machine) and then the dry and yes, there is a much fainter scent but it is absolutely there.

Eco credentials wise, MOAM is on top of everything. You can request a freepost envelope when you’ve finished with them and the brands recycling partners will recycle them although I don’t know why they don’t send an envelope when you order because you’re probably going to pour straight into the aluminium bottles. Speaking of those bottles, they suddenly made refillable laundry products look possible to me – I haven’t seen such big bottles and it just looks like a very good amount of product. Other washing liquids I’ve seen come in much smaller bottles. You can see from the pouch above that the liquids are free from everything you’d want them to be free from if you’re making a green decision about how to deal with your smalls and sundries. Price-wise, the starter set is £38.50 which feels really quite reasonable to me – two large bottles and two large pouches that give 60 washes. In terms of wash quality I didn’t see anything to indicate it wasn’t cleaning how my usual washing capsules do – I almost never wash above 40 degrees so tend to use a stain remover first if there is something that really needs it and I’d continue to do that I think.
