[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I’m going to try and do a few of these ‘three of the best’ because it’s such a good way to round up products that I’m using as I go along. I took a long time to take to dry shampoo but now that my hair has got naturally a bit more oily I do find myself using it more, particularly as a fringe refresh to give the impression my hair is cleaner than it actually is! Things have really changed in this market – it used to be a very standard formula that did an okay job, amplified with fragrance that you may or may not like. Formulas have got more sophisticated (although they all use powders to absorb oils) so results are better. The best way to apply is to section the hair and give a quick spritz at the roots of the sections then get your fingers in there to massage, following with a brush through. I didn’t find any of these leaving white residue and the effects were longer lasting and a bit more volumizing than other variants which is why they’ve made it to the top three.
Although this is the most scented of the three best dry shampoo offerings, for the price it performed nicely. I am sure the fragrance is supposed to be something in particular but to me it’s a generic sweet floral with a bit of vanilla that neutralises other odours. It’s clean rather than sickly. Added into the formula are pea sprout extract and provitamin B. Best for using on oily roots for an extra day or two away from the shampoo. It’s £5.99 HERE. Although the claim of ‘grow strong’ seems to be only helpful for hair in that you stay away from heat styling for longer, as a budget option, it’s one of the best I’ve tried.
I’ve reviewed Maria Nila Invisidry Shampoo before and it still remains a favourite for a speedy refresh that lasts the day. If you want a more eco friendly option, this dry shampoo is has carbon neutral packaging, it’s free from sulphates and parabens and is vegan. It’s this dry shampoo that converted me to being a more regular user. The fragrance is light – it’s a fruity pear scent – and fresh smelling and contains some colour guard making it best for coloured hair and all over refreshing and volumizing. It’s in limited distribution in the UK but you can find small cans for £10.99 at Sally Beauty HERE.
I’ve saved the very best dry shampoo to last. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day (or PHD for short) dry shampoo is the standout in this line-up. Dry shampoo is one of the brand’s best sellers and no surprise there because it will tackle sweat, dirt and oil on top of being cruelty free, paraben free and silicone free. If you spot some white residue, don’t worry – it’s literally a reaction to the powder working on the sweat and oil. Wait 30 seconds and brush out. Living Proof PHD is best for heavy duty needs, as a unisex product (the mild scent is just clean rather than feminine and disperses quite quickly) and volumizing .. after exercise or if you just can’t be bothered to set to a full wash and dry. A friend of mine bulk buys and he is a very discerning man! There’s an offer on HERE for a full size and a mini for £14.74 (value £22) (thank you eagle-eye’d Kerry) Otherwise, it’s £19 and worth every penny HERE.
