[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I wrote about this product back in 2019 when it was newly reformulated – my go-to face coverage, at one time, was LM Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser which still exists of course. I don’t remember why I veered to oil-free but I rarely used anything else. I don’t think I’ve ever used the Pure Canvas Primer before so both have had an outing this week. One of my big discoveries during lock down is that my skin can manage without foundation or any sort of coverage actually as long as I pay attention to skin care and my tone is warm (when I walk Honey early in the morning, I don’t use SPF of any sort, but usually use it thereafter for anything other than incidental sun). It’s been a revelation but also triggered a bit of a dislike of anything on my face.
I can genuinely say that I don’t feel ‘smothered’ with either of these – or, indeed both at the same time which is what I am wearing as I write. If you are happy with bare skin, the primer gives light hydration with a luminious finish – nice if you like the light to hit your face and give some ‘glow’ but of course, it doesn’t have SPF. The Tint itself, which I thought would be too orange for my tone, is fine – a kind of ‘bonne mine’ look – and the weight is so light that I wouldn’t know it had SPF at all.
The shade I have is Nude 2N1 – it will be too warm for palest tones – and I seem to remember from my oil-free days I was Vanille. Or was I Sand? Maybe both at different times of the year. There are 20 shades to choose from running from lightest to deepest.
Either are a good transition or toe-in-the-water if you’re like me and not that keen to rush back to foundations, being lightly perfecting and tone enhancing without adding weight and clamminess. You can find both HERE for £35 (tint) and £32 primer, non affiliate HERE (John Lewis).

Like you, my skin has loved not having makeup on it and as I work from home and don’t go out much anyway, little or no SPF. But going forward, how do you feel about wearing foundation or slightly less when we won’t be able to test it now but I’m assuming having to buy and see what it’s like. And also, if we all have to wear face masks then surely there is going to be rub off on to the masks anyway which won’t be fun.
Yes, I think masks will be disruptive to bases but I guess it depends upon where you’re required to wear it. I put a tinted moisturiser on to go on the train last week and that was no problem at all – because it was a 20 minute trip and then on and off in the two shops I went into – no problems – but if you need to wear a mask all day there’s no point in any of the primers, bases and fixing sprays! So, I guess having a moisture tint covers all bases in that respect – I like to think I’d go back to light coverage foundations (especially as I look so sickly in winter) but not attracted in any way by the full coverage bases. We shall see :-)))
Thanks Jane, I guess it will be a version of testing as life progresses. Always love your reviews and thank you for sharing
thank you Laura xx
Thank you for your review. I used to wear LM tinted moisturizer (oil-free) many years ago. I was intrigued by the new formulation, but I never got around to testing it.
I have the LM radiance perfecting foundation and on days when I want lighter coverage, I simply mix a bit of it with my moisturiser.
I’m still trying to figure out which of the LM primers to get – will you test the hydrating primer?
I don’t have that particular one here I don’t think but if it comes my way, yes of course I will. I found the illuminating primer quite moisturising though so unless you are super dry, that would probably be fine for you x
