[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] While new supplies of the Cloud are in production, due mid-February, it’s a good time to look at the new soap launches from L’Occitane. I love a soap over a hand-wash although we seem to have quite a lot of washes at the moment. I tend to keep soaps for the bathroom and washes everywhere else but can’t really explain why.
My favourites are these Bonne Mere soaps in new scents, Rhubarb & Basil and Rosemary & Clary Sage. They’re well scented with no over-sweetening so rhubarb actually smells like crisp and fresh rhubarb while the Rosemary & Clary sage bar smells properly but smoothly herby. I have to say that the rhubarb predominates for me – I didn’t get much basil but I didn’t really want to so I have no complaints. That’s the block that I’ve put through its paces and the scent intensifies as you use it. The lather is creamy and rich of course using sunflower and coconut oils – and for £6 I feel they’re real treats that look beautiful…nice for little cheer up gifts if you’re feeling like spreading some joy. A mention too for the annual Solidarity Candle – every year L’Occitane produces a scented candle where all the profits go to UNICEF to treat and prevent blindness around the world. I love the way that each candle purchase translates to a year’s worth of Vitamin A for a child (a vitamin deficiency is one of the leading causes of blindness internationally) who needs it.

Lovely. I love L’Occitane, and a nice bar of soap, and YOUR soap Jane, but there are things to think about now aren’t there? This comment is actually useless and redundant right now because we can’t visit anyone at all, but I’m going to post it anyway because hopefully it will be relevant again soon. I love a bar of soap, particularly in the bathroom like you, but last year, in the brief period of respite when we could visit other people, even if that was outdoors but able to use the loo (in Scotland we have had very strict Covid restrictions for many many months) I started whipping the soap out of the bathroom if we had people coming round for a garden visit. I would stick it in the bathroom cabinet out of the away and put a spare handwash in it’s place. Towels were also removed and where previously I would have put fresh ones out, instead I put paper towels, and a bin for them. So I guess that I’m saying that even when we can visit again it’s going to be liquid soap and paper towels for day guests, instead of nice soap and towels, and I’m wondering when we will ever do that again? Overnighters, when we can have them, (oh yes please), may have towels, and even a nice soap if they wish, as long as they take it home with them! Haha! Thankfully your Japanese Cleansing Bar is mine and mine alone anyway.
You’re so right – and I guess we are more reliant on liquid soap than before because it seems easier somehow for the situations you mention. But nothing beats a lovely scented bar soap right next to the bath or bathroom sink. The L’Occitane Bonne Mere soaps are small (I think smaller than they used to be!) so quite postable. My mum and dad are in Scotland so I know the rules have been strict – I was sending up M&S parcels with scones and biscuits quite regularly because they couldn’t get across the border to their nearest one.
I always feel as if soap must be more hygienic than wash as unless you have one of those American automatic dispensers the top of the pump is always being touched by dirty hands!
