Le Blanc de Chanel

Chanel is having a little bit of a refocus on existing products – the stars in their line up – from now up until 8th May. If you pop to a counter, they’re giving complimentary makeovers with plenty of beauty tips and tricks, should you be passing. Of their iconic products, Le Blanc de Chanel is the one that lives in my make-up drawer permanently. I don’t use it every day, but I do use it when I’m doing ‘proper’ make up.

Le Blanc de Chanel was created in 1985 and I guess you’d call it a make up perfector. Although it comes out white (as above) once it’s on the skin it settles to a transluscent illuminating base to be used before foundation and after moisturiser. I was taught to use it by adding a couple of drops to the palm of my hand, mix it around a bit, and then tap it onto my complexion. For no reason I can explain, this seems to work better than just applying it directly from the bottle. If I can liken the consistency to anything, it would be a light SPF (although it contains no SPF). Le Blanc de Chanel just puts a gleam on the skin that isn’t there otherwise, and for those who are very particular about their base and enjoy the canvas creating ritual, the difference is obvious. I can’t say that you’ll get the glow of your life – you won’t; it’s more subtle than that, like the gentlest halo effect.

As an added tip, you can mix it with your regular foundation to get a skin light lift. Better yet, this really is an any-age product – your skin type or age is not relevant here. It’s £33 HERE but if you do decide to stop by a store for a makeover and tips, ask the consultant how to best use it. I hate to say it, but once you’ve got the hang of it, you never can do without it for ‘proper’ face.
