[unpaid/purchase] I think I had a spooky psychic moment because I thought Lisa already had a foundation – in fact I even checked in with her team a couple of months ago with a request to review it and yet it hasn’t even fully launched still and there was no advance publicity! What Lisa has done with her new Seamless Skin Foundation is release sample cards that you can order in advance of the proper Seamless Skin Foundation so that when it does release, you know exactly what shade to get. How absolutely sensible!
This is a screen grab of the shade that I eventually settled on that’s right for me – I did a video on Instagram HERE if you want to see a ‘live’ try on. However, what I was really struck by is how light the foundation shades go. I’m usually pretty good at judging my shade, but I was way off on several occasions. So, I’m going through the sample cards I ordered – they’re not my best swatches but will give you a good guideline across this particular spectrum of shades (there are more cards). The cards, by the way, are £2 each,
This is Light Set 1 – From bottom to top: Light 1 01, 02, 03, 04.
This is Light Set 2 (not M/L as labelled in the picture). From bottom to top: Light 2 06, 07, 08, 09.
I finally found my shade in Light/Medium 1. From Bottom to top Light/Medium 1 09, 10, 11 and 12. 12 is my shade. In fact, Lisa confirmed on-line that I’d got the right shade for me and she thought I’d be 12 in winter and 13 in summer.
The finish is designed to be a ‘real skin’ finish, so not matte and not dewy but that sweet spot just in between. However, in my view Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin Foundation veers just a bit matte so if you like a glow finish, it’s not for you. If you do decided to get some of the swatch cards, when you try the foundation on, apply with a brush and leave it a moment or two to ‘set’ before you decide which is the right shade. The colours seem to go on very light but settle themselves after a minute or so and there is enough in each sample bubble to apply a full coat or two lighter applications. So, I’d go lightly, wait and then go lightly again so can see both application finishes. I love the attention to detail of the affordable try-before-you-buy – I wish all brands did this. Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin Foundation Swatch cards are available HERE.
I’ve had a couple of feedback comments from people who have found the finish not suiting their dry skin – it’s a beautiful foundation but I do see that point and if that’s the case, add a drop of any serum you have available and see how that works. It’s my guess that Lisa might well bring out another texture finish next year in which case, us dewy finish fans will be happy as Larry. I’ve also had feedback that the stay is remarkable which was also my finding.

Hi Jane, that was really useful to read. Do we have any idea how the foundation will be priced when it’s available?
I haven’t heard yet, so sorry 🙂
What a clever idea! Between Covid making it awkward to sample things and many of us living a long way from stores that stock Lisa’s products, it’s ideal to be able to try these. The bubbles remind me of the wax samples of Serge Lutens’ perfumes you used to be able to order. (Another clever idea.)
I love a blister sample pack – I’ve still got one from about five years ago from YSL they were giving out in Sephora in France. Could not believe my luck!
I do not wear foundation in the daytime. Instead I use Glossier Futuredew under my SPF. I wonder if Futuredew would impart a bit of glow under LE’s foundation?
It’s possible – or you could mix it into the foundation providing the two are compatible. If I had a full size here I would do a bit of experimenting but my samples are all used up on swatches.
I’m still struggling to work out what’s a good colour match so was interested to see you’re number 12 – though still struggling how/why!
Jane – please do I little video to recognise/understand skin tones and what to look for in a colour foundation
You really should send for the sample cards – they’re only £2 each I think … really worth doing to get exactly the right shade. This is an unusual foundation so I’m not sure a video would help but I have a video on my Instagram that shows me trying some of the shades on xx
First of all, thank you for your always interesting and informative posts and instagram videos, I always learn a lot, and have fun too watching them.
I tried the foundation and agree with those who think it is a bit too mat/flat and probably not suitable for dry-ish skin – no need to use the word ‘mature’ – I am 60 with nice wrinkles and relatively good skin. It required careful preparation before application – exfoliation, good hydration, primer; Lisa’s video on how to try the foundation is excellent and I found my shade. It’s very pigmented, so you really don’t need too much product, and it tends to get darker after a few minutes. Unfortunately, it’s not for me; I did not like the texture and the mat effect on my skin; the finish did not look ‘natural’, just too flat. The staying power is very good but after a few hours my skin still felt a bit too dry. More hydrating and dewy foundations are more suitable for my skin so, although I love Lisa Eldridge’s products, I won’t buy her foundation. Also, I believe this foundation was made to be used with Lisa Eldridge Elevated Glow Highlighter to lift it and make skin look fresh, it won’t look great without some lifting.
Thank you Carla for your thoughtful review – I’m really pleased to have it. A good tip is to pat on some serum over the top – just a light touch in your palm, put your hands together to take some onto each hand and then press over your complexion. It’s a Caroline Barnes tip that really works. However, I quite see the sensible option is to get a foundation that suits your preference!
I have Lisa’s foundation and I love it – particularly the colour match – on my normal to shiny (T zone) skin. I don’t like a dewy look so that makes sense. I also like Bobbi Brown’s Long Wear Weightless foundation – though I’d say Lisa’s comes up a bit more moisturising for me. It never ceases to amaze me how different foundations suit different skins. I’ve always wanted to love the It Cosmetics, Your Skin but Better CC Cream – but it won’t sit on my skin at all. Try before you buy is definitely worthwhile.
I didn’t much like It Cosmetics CC either after a while. You’re right – skin is a living organ so of course it’s going to vary in behaviour from person to person. Lisa doing samplers was such a good idea. x
Does it oxidize much? The sample cards have been sold out for months. Is it returnable if o matched incorrectly?
I don’t know about returns – I’m sure they’re on the website. It didn’t oxidise on me – but they really have such a good customer service team it’s well worth getting in touch with them.
