[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I think it was last year that The Body Shop took avocado from its natural home – on toast – and turned it, via sustainably sourced avocado oil from South Africa, into body products. The collection has had a makeover and a few new additions and here we are. As you know, I adore so many of the The Body Shop products but this is just not the one for me.
The Body Yoghurt I can just about manage but the scrub – it’s just too like actual food. The fragrance is not full on avocado by the way – apple and almond with a blast of avo wrapped in coconut and vanilla – so it’s not even that I worry I’ll smell like guacamole. All that said, and in the interests of a fair review, the products are as luscious and hydrating as you’d hope they’d be – the scrub isn’t harsh as its buffered by Community Fair Trade shea butter and the Body Yoghurt is light and fresh.
It makes me curious to know if any ingredients are an absolute no for you? I really steer away from anything snail slime or placenta (and I’m offered plenty but no thank you) but avocado isn’t anywhere near those cringe inducing ingredients. I know perfectly well that plenty of people will be ‘mmm, avocado body scrub.. how delicious’, because TBS will have done their research very thoroughly before introducing it to the market. That said, it’s a global market and tastes differ across the world – avocados are a rich resource for nourishing oil (both inside and out) but I think I’m going to stick to the old toast topper rather than a body topper. What about you? You can find the new Avocado products HERE starting at £7 for a shower cream.

“ it’s natural home ….on toast”
I know what you mean, I bought my friend the Dr Andrew Weil mega mushroom eye serum a long time ago and she felt exactly the same as you! Really liked the performance but couldn’t get past the smellThanks for sharing Jane
so welcome! I can do mushrooms – weirdly 😉
Oh, me too not very keen on foody skincare – at least not vegetable type (sweets are ok although still prefer flowers and other perfume-like compositions). Give me my salad and steak on plate, don’t try to rub it on me 😉
haha!
Jane I feel exactly the same about the snails, but for me it’s pretty much anything from Lush, after trying a ‘scrub’ that was basically sunflower seeds in moist soil. Ghastly. X
Yes, I hear you. I once saw a tweet saying that someone had fainted outside Lush on Regent Street and I understood :-)))
I cannot abide the thought of snail slime, gack….. And weirdly, although I love watermelon and cucumber to eat, skincare scented with them makes me a little nauseous.
There’s definitely a tipping point isn’t there..
My 10 year old daughter is crazy about everything called avocado. So I bought her a shower cream and a body butter. She loves both and I really appreciate the ingredients list of the butter, it is just perfect. I do not use it myself but neither the smell nor the texture make me question those products, they are really good.
That’s great! I agree that they’re lovely products – I have no questions either: not liking avocado in skin care is personal preference.
That Body Yogart does look like it could be spread on toast or used as a dip. Doesn’t put me off though. My problem is anything that smells of Lily, I just can’t stand it. This rules out all of Eucerin’s Hyaluron range for me. I am left eyeing Nivea For Men’s Hyaluron offering and wondering what it smells of.
Speculation in the weekend press that poor old Body Shop may be sold again. I miss Anita Roddick.
I wish I’d appreciated Anita’s vision more at the time – I really do. I’m not that keen on lily either but not so averse I have to avoid it – I’d just rather it wasn’t there.
