[unpaid/sample] One of the major spending curves that retailers saw over lockdown was the upgrading of every day products. It translated across self-care and home-care more than anywhere but I feel this is something that happens on the cusp of winter every year. Maybe not to the same degree, but there is a shift in the senses and a craving for things that feel more indulgent and embracing – something to warm the soul when the evenings seem less inviting than in the summer. Messiah & Eve is exactly the sort of upgrade I’m talking about – it’s not so expensive that it’s prohibitive but feels infinitely more special than the body care you can grab in the supermarket.
I think the fragrances are the big win for Messiah & Eve. I’m always sceptical about skin care ingredients that are only on the body momentarily but these feel pleasantly softening and decently cleansing. There are two options – 01 Beyond Here and 02 Modern Unity and they’d both fall into the unisex category with a bias towards woody, deep notes – exactly the sort of notes that fit autumn and winter so well by evoking warmth and comfort.
The one I keep going back to for sniffs is Modern Unity, a blend of blackberry, birch tar and guaiacwood. It’s that leather chair next to a flickering fire, book in hand and blanket around. It’s smoky and cosseting. Beyond Here is brighter and fresher with bergamot, jasmine and leather – there’s still a warming element but it’s the wrapping up to go leaf kicking or chestnut hunting rather than to hunker down and welcome the evening. The fragrances leave their trace on your skin for longer than most. I don’t think I’d want to use these in the shower because the moment is too fleeting – I think they’re perfect bath time treats when you can take time to wash your skin and breath in the notes. I’d also suggest using them as hand wash so you get more touch points for the fragrance experience. They’re £21 each HERE.

Hi Jane I’m wondering have you tried any of the new shampoo free shampoos especially NEW WASH ❓
I have and I don’t really get on with them at all. I know it takes time to get used to them but I’m not keen enough to go through it!
