[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Much as I don’t like the messaging on this and would usually avoid it on the grounds that nobody needs telling their age is something to correct, I have been using it and it is sublime. Mystifyingly, it’s sold out absolutely everywhere so you’ll need to seek it out in your local Boots until stock issues improve. La Roche-Posay has produced gold standard SPF for a long time and it’s especially good for sensitive skin (as is Avene). If you head to the bottom of the page, you’ll see that there’s a great offer on absolutely everything on their site.
I’m not joking when I say it feels, texturally, exactly the same as my favourite CHANEL SPF50 in that it is light feeling on the skin (no skin ‘sweat’ or claminess when you massage it in) in a cream-gel formula that applies like a dream. It makes applying the right amount (a full teaspoon) to face and neck no bother at all. When it comes to protection, you’ll hardly know you’re wearing it, but it will give you the full gamut – UVA, UVB and infrared.
The formula (£25) also contains hyaluronic acid (low weight) and niacinamide with PHE-resorcinol (a skin brightening and antioxidant ingredient taken from a pine tree molecule) to tackle hyperpigmentation and hydrate the skin. It’s also water and sweat resistant. This product feels like a break-through in mid-price sun protection because it behaves so much like a luxury one – it’s fresh feeling, comfortable and the hydration lasts all day. I really can’t find any information about CELLOX-B3 (LRP patented technology) but it also contains Meroxyl, one of the most effective ingredients at filtering all ultraviolet wavelengths. It had a bit of notoriety in the mid 2000’s because for a time it wasn’t approved by the FDA in the US so could only be bought from other countries such as Canada. There wasn’t so much internet back then so the search was real.

Thanks for the review. Weirdly, I read another review for this (in a magazine) that described it as on the thicker side and taking some work to rub in – I’m glad you didn’t find it was the case, maybe I’ll try this one next as I’m about to run out of my fave, their spf50+ Invisible Fluid
I honestly didn’t find that to be the case – I’ve literally just put some more on now having read your comment just in case I was having a mad moment! It’s fine.
I have this and it is a lovely elegant texture. However, like all LRP sunscreens, it pills horribly on me. I think this is very much the fault of my skin chemistry and not the product, as almost everything can pill on me no matter how it’s applied/what it’s applied with — so frustrating! I have it on now with nothing underneath and it’s just about ok, although my skin could do with some extra hydration.
Wow, that’s so strange – pilling is usually the result of one product not suiting another – are you sure you don’t have cleansing balm (for example) still on your skin? Or maybe even residue of night cream?
I had high hopes for this. The formula feels lovely, but once set, it pills like crazy on me, too. I tried with different serums, on bare skin, with primer on top – nothing keeps it from pilling. So I’m back to LPR Ultra Cream.
You’re not the first to say this – but I have not experienced any pilling at all. It’s so strange.
