[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] As you can see, I’ve had a good go at the Elemis Peptide Antioxidant Hydra-Serum – well before Christmas actually, but have been slow to write about it. In many ways, it’s an ideal switch over product for when the heating goes on and cold weather starts to take it’s toll in leaving skin looking for moisture. What I hoped for from this was hydration and smoothness and I got both.
It’s good for anyone who gets slightly rougher skin under those conditions and loses its lustre. It will definitely address both but I think it’s very top end price wise (£55) for 30ml making those drops very precious. The Peptide4 range from Elemis is really very effective – a couple of years back I tried the Thousand Flower Mask from the same group and loved it and with the serum, it delivers the same efficacy which marks it as reliable. Main players in this are hyaluronic, Honesty Seed oil, Lotus Flower milk, Saffron Flower and Indian gooseberry – I don’t see any obvious enzymatic exfoliants in this other than the Lotus Flower which (it’s a long ingredient list available on their website) but natural peptides occur in Honesty and there are a heap of flower oils. Upshot, my skin was noticeably smoother when I used it at night – the following morning there was a difference although I don’t say it was dramatic. More of an improving forecast over time – with at least two thirds of the bottle still to go, I’d feel confident that results would increase. Serums to me are Emperor’s New Clothes, I haven’t found one yet where I can see an obvious difference after use. I’ve tried a few French Pharmacy offerings and a couple of major beauty hall offerings but just don’t get it.
The beauty industry loves to add an unnecessary extra – I think they can add a layer of ingredients that you might not find in your moisturiser – so for example a peel serum with a specific job to do under a moisturiser makes sense to me but I think in many cases you are just as well off with a decent moisturiser.
I do love Elemis. It’s usually a treat rather than the norm. QVC always have a couple of good bundle offers on around Christmas time which I direct my husband to :). Use their face wash and balms always as they are more kind to my skin and smell divine.
I’m just not great at spending on serums. I have Estee Lauder night serum and used other Elemis and Decleor ones but just can’t see any major improvements.
Maybe the truth is I’d have more wrinkles it I didn’t ha ha!
Anyway I persist in my search for miracle lotions.
Ps. I love the way you recognise that most women don’t have pots of money at the ready to spend hundreds each month. I add in high end products but also use L’Oréal, No7 or Nivea to plump out my collection. It’s a necessary balance!
I like all the brands you mention – reliable and ‘treat-ish’. Yes, I need to focus more on budget brands but difficult at the moment because not much is coming through on that front.
