I think maybe you could overnight with a shiny one – Biossance I swear by or Lanolips and really help with dryness. Then for day, while you won’t get the same level of balminess you can use the matte ? : -)

They are nice I must agree – I prefer the kind of shiny feel to be honest so I can’t get along with the matte :-))

I just always tegret lipstick buys as 9/10 I just cant tolerate them. The matt texture you describe sounds like one that Nars does. It was lush actually and is a very comfortable wear, even for me. I only dont use it alot because the colour is very pinky and it doesn’t suit me. Im more of a muted/winter coral type.

I have used the Chanel Rouge Coco Baume as well, and also an Estee Lauder one, Pure Colour Envy Colour Replenish Lip Balm, and both were stylish and effective. This winter has made my lips so dry, though, so I bought a new Dior recently (when getting a new matte Christmas lipstick). What the sales assistant recommended was the Dior Addict Lip Glow Colour Reviver Balm, which has a slight freshness to it but no plumping or tingly effect (phew – I hate things like that, and Dior does do some plumping lip products which I am keen to avoid). It has the same packaging as the other Dior Addict lipsticks and has worked incredibly well – very hydrating and a pleasant balm on its own, but the finish is so glossy that a matte, nourishing balm seems like a brilliant idea – I do love my matte lipsticks. Thank you Jane, hope you have a lovely weekend!

Yes, that’s a good point re formula – I’m just experimenting at the moment with barrier balms mixed with lipstick to create coloured balms .. cheap way to do it.

I have both the Chanel Rouge Coco Baume and EL’s big breath Pure Color Revitalizing Crystal Balm to alternate with Biossance and Burt’s Bees. Their formula have a similar format: stick, soft / more waxy feel and very comfortable with a hint of very pretty colour (EL has more colour than Chanel). Again not glossy / slightly sheeny and seem to hold on the lip a bit longer than a stickier product. I wonder if a new lip balm formula has launched and the brands are all on it…. I highly recommend! Thank you Jane, great review. xxx
