[AD/paid] Skin is endlessly fascinating stuff – the largest living organ of our body and always in a state of flux depending on so many external factors that we often have no control over. If you’re a skin care buff, meticulously choosing powerful ingredients and science led products, it makes nothing but good sense to know where your skin is at so you can adapt your regime accordingly.
It’s intriguing to be able to self-analyse as a back up to your own intuition. It’s estimated that we can touch our faces up to 3000 time a day so really we should be our own best experts but HAUTO’s new Self Skin Test is the Einstein of complexion checking, using measurement of proteins to allow you to dose your skin correctly. The absolute joys of skin care are manifold – the ritual, the self -care, the meticulous choosing and the watching and waiting. I think I’d rather be sure that my choices are used optimally, especially if they’ve made my credit card squeak a bit!
So, HAUTO works by measuring proteins that indicate five possible outcomes. As an example, if your skin is showing signs of irritation, you might side-swerve a highly active cream for a much more gentle option. It can also flag dryness, hidden UV damage and sluggish cell activity. You don’t need to measure your skin every day of course but it’s super helpful to know what it actually needs before you make a new purchase, or if you want reassurance that you’re on the right track. Using the HAUTO App (at the App Store) to input your lifestyle details, you also have a three-step physical testing kit that takes your biomarkers and sends the information to your phone.
From there, you create your skin profile with a photo-tracking feature (don’t worry, this takes very little time) so you can compare from product to product over a period of time. You’re pretty much real-time reviewing your skin care’s performance. This feels really very relevant to me personally because I never feel I remember well enough how my skin looked at the beginning of a particular regime so it’s useful to have a marker.
At the same time, there’s a Live Chat option so you can ask for advice at any time from skin care advisors. HAUTO recommends skin care across all budgets based on the analysis although because you have the information you need, go ahead and free-style.
Once you get your results (above) there is detailed information when you tap on each category. The chat was useful (a bit slow at this early stage) and the advisor recommended several FaceTheory products (amongst others, an enzyme exfoliant which is actually my favourite type of exfoliator, a MediK8 Cleanser and a Theraderm AHA mask), all of which fell well into my ‘under £50’ request. I’m definitely interested in exploring FaceTheory further.
Going a little further, it seems to me that this kind of non-invasive skin diagnostic tool is going to be hugely significant in both the cosmetic and medical dermatology sector – to a certain degree it already is (HAUTO by the way makes it very clear that is a non-medical device), but I imagine it will become more commonplace. In the meantime, there’s something highly satisfactory about having the results in front of you so you can act accordingly – although I think that it’s best for those with a bit of skin savvy in the first place purely because there is some technical wording that may not be familiar to everyone. The test (and app, plus all the recommendations and advice) is £19 but I have a discount code if you feel tempted so if you use BRITISHBEAUTY at check out you’ll get it for £15 HERE (shipping is free). This is definitely one for the skin curious and anyone who wants to see whether their products are hitting the right spots.

How interesting. We are getting closer to the tricorder used by Dr ‘Bones’ McCoy in Star Trek.
