Complexion bases have a lot of work to do – they need to adaptable, effective, multi-functional and affordable. Hitting all those points is the new e.l.f. CC Camo Cream – a makeup-skincare hybrid that goes a step further by incorporating SPF30. I’ve been putting it through its paces and am happy to find a skin enhancing base that is accessible on all fronts.
I like hard working products – and I especially like a do-it-all base because I’ve never been a fan of adding moisturiser under sun protection. There’s the real danger that it interacts and creates annoying squirls which basically means a start-over using something else, with the additional issue that it can just feel too much, especially on a hot day. The beauty of e.l.f. CC Camo Cream is that it knocks out any interaction by being everything in one and you can get the exact coverage level you want by adding less or more. In fact, it’s got such a good pigment level that for my preference, which is light to medium coverage, you only need a tiny amount on a brush to get an even looking complexion that feels hydrated as well as protected. I’ve used both finger tips and brushes to apply and prefer the brush method for this to be sure of even coverage.
With hyaluronic acid helping to keep moisture levels up, skin looks flexible and comfortable, but that’s not where the skin care stops. Niacinamide helps, over time, to keep skin bright, while collagen and peptides are for ever skin friends, giving moisture locking elasticity, so coverage is never mask-like and moves with your expressions. The finish is ‘natural’ so it behaves like your own skin being neither too glowy nor too matte.
e.l.f. CC Camo Cream is available in 20 shades from palest to deepest. The e.l.f. site uses a magical shade match service where you put in your match from other brands you use and it will find you your perfect e.l.f. shade. I’ve used this system before and it really works.
My shade is Light 210 N, the middle shade of the swatch – before it is Fair 120 N and after it is Fair 150 C.
You’ll know from previous posts that I’m already a fan of this brand for its combination of quality and affordability. I like that it’s for all ages, all tones and all budgets and it’s a brand I reach for often. Current favourites are the Poreless Putty Blush and their long lasting No Budge Eye Shadow Sticks but I know there will be more. You can find e.l.f. CC Camo Cream HERE for £14. If you want to see this look applied, I’ve got an IGTV going up on Instagram HERE.

Hi Jane, did you have anything on your skin before you applied the camo cream on IG? Looks really impressive. Although the packaging looks very familiar
Thank you Kerry! I used BioEffect earlier in the day before I applied (maybe an hour or so before) but other than that, nothing special. I am trialling a new product (to be revealed) and I’ve used peels over the past week or so in general day to day skin care. I had a Profhilo top up just before the lockdown.
Well you’re looking radiant Jane! Very envious. Going to give the camo a go as well, you’re a good advert for it 🙂
Thank you! I hope you like it – please do give me feedback x
Really like the sound of this – how much SPF coverage do you think comes with a light application? Would you recommended a separate sunscreen underneath?
Well, texturally, it feels heavier at first and then settles to a light feel – the coverage is medium to high and I guess the more you use the higher the SPF, BUT, I would mix it with a facial SPF if you prefer a very light coverage and get a tint that way because there is plenty of pigment in it. I’m comfortable with a lighter touch on this because I’m not going to be wearing it for sun bathing or long sun exposure – like all makeup SPFs, I’d use it as an in-and-out of sun thing rather than a beach day scenario. Personally I think if you are using just for in and out, you don’t need a sunscreen underneath – longer exposure, maybe for belt and braces.
That’s really helpful – thanks! X
welcome!
Ooh these look excellent, and I’ve been hoping for a review of them, so thank you Jane. They look like a very competent alternative to my favourite CC cream by IT cosmetics, which is about twice the price, but until this came out I didn’t have many cc creams to choose from – lots of high street skin care brands have actually discontinued their deeper bb /cc creams. (I actually really wanted someone to look into this – when a brand starts off with a wider shade range and then quietly discontinued the darker ones! It’s happened to me with Olay, Garnier and Maybelline!) will be tricky for me to find my shade until I can get to a shop but it does look great!
Hi Nazneen – definitely try the shade finder .. I used it for the new Elizabeth Arden foundation and got a perfect match (same system). I’ve heard Camo in the same sentence as your current CC and the word ‘dupe’ was in the sentence too!
This sounds like another Elf product I’ll be adding to my daily essentials – currently using their Wowbrow, their brilliant Putty Eye Primers and long wear eye crayons. I love their clear simple packaging and innovative skincare. Only thing I’ve never had much luck with are their lipsticks…just not found the one for me, well I did…the perfect not too intense red…but they discontinued it
They’ve got some new lippies with a heart in the core that I want to try. I love the putty blush…
Hi Jane. Which brush did you use to apply this please?
bareMinerals Smoothing Face 🙂
