Sun Bum Spray SPF30 Review

[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] The Sun Bum Spray SPF30 is billed as ‘very water resistant’ which is a good thing – getting out of the sea/pool is such a key time to caught unawares, and don’t forget you can burn in water. Like any sunscreen, regular application is a must, no matter what, but it could be that this formulation buys you a little more time given that they claim 80 minutes water resistance. Anyway, I have no way to actually test this unless I dive into my bath covered in SPF but Sun Bum is an SPF brand on the rise. I like that it looks a bit different. Sun Bum is owned by S C Johnson (a US manufacturing company – Ecover, Mr Muscle, Pledge etc)  who bought the brand in 2019.

I know that aerosols aren’t entirely popular for environmental reasons but they’re absolutely great to use on wriggling kids or if you’re sunning yourself on your own. I do yoga a lot and I’d struggle to get to parts of my own back.

There are plenty of options within the range – kids, babies, aftersun, tinted lip spf – and it’s at the mid-point price-wise, edging towards premium. The SPF30 spray is £19.99 (there’s a cool down spray too which I like the look of at £17.99 but unless its got gold dust in it you can buy that type of cooling spray for a lot less than that). The SPF50 is £19.99 which seems okay to me – it’s vegan as are all the products and also reef friendly. Reef friendly is a term like ‘clean beauty’ in that there is no official definition, but in this case Sun Bum cite that their products are Oxybenzone free and Octinoxate free: two ingredients which cannot appear in products to comply with the Hawaii Act 104 Reef Compliance. Anyway, both the products that I’ve tried are texturally pleasant, have something of powdery, holiday-ish scent and, particularly in the case of the SPF50, made my skin feel lovely and soft.
