[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Got to admit I’m surprised at these. I like the original 4711 for being a blast of freshness on a searing hot day and somehow thought that these would be the same botanical burst – which is an acquired taste – but with a floral accent. However, it’s very much about the flowers with the ‘sting’ of the original taken out. I’d go as far as to say they’re rather gentle.
The three variants are Jasmine, Lilac and Rose that all allow their namesake to predominate. They’re not one-note fragrances, but the blends allow the star to shine.
There’s a Magnolia version which I don’t have here and would be my least favourite option anyway, but the Jasmine cologne is quite citrussy, with tea and tonka bean notes – it’s lighter than you might think (in a good way). Lilac has a bit of peach and freesia before musk and sandalwood but the main notes you will pick up are the lilac.
Personally, rose is my favourite – it’s really fresh and pretty and not particularly summery so if you are looking for a floral day wear that will just sit nicely and delicately on your skin occasionally reminding you it’s there, this is it. And good value at £18 HERE, non-affiliate HERE. They’ve exceeded my expectations and I think they will yours too.

Oh brilliant! I adore 4711, ever since childhood. The rose would be a lovely purchase.
(I do miss those ginormous, dirt cheap bottles of eau de cologne, lavender water, and rosewater cologne you could buy at Boots until not long who. Bloody brilliant for cleaning glass……crystal sparkling and a fabulously scented room)
Excellent lift for a Tuesday, thank you
great! I think you will enjoy!
These look so cute!
4711 my Mother’s favourite! How nice the company has decided it’s time for a reboot.
yes, and they’ve done it really nicely as well.
4711 used to be the fragrance that Air New Zealand used for their wet-wipe sachets (it might still be, but I’m remembering back to the 70s). No-one in NZ had the money to fly anywhere for holidays back then, but very occasionally my father would go on a business trip, and he would always bring me one back. To me it was the height of glamour and I used to spend ages thinking about when to open the sachet. There’s something in the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm that smells very similar, which is one of the reasons I love it. But in that case it actually *does* cost a fortune…
That’s such a lovely memory – thank you for sharing it x
We visited Cologne at Christmas. Unfortunately the 4711 shop & Museum was closed for refurb. They did have a large range in the shop opposite though. I was surprised how much I liked some of their new fragrances. I’m currently wearing the Blood Orange & Basil that I brought back.
There is an interesting tour of a cologne museum in the Farina House where they made the original cologne, they’re keen to stress the ‘original’.
Ooh, I’d love to go there!
Blood orange and basil! Oh yes please! What a fabulous trip you had.
