I barely have enough praises for this! It’s so exciting to get hold of something that truly delivers on the shine promise – I don’t know about you, but shine is often elusive especially if you home dye your hair like I do. I get a great shine immediately after dyeing but it sort of fades off as time passes.
I have to admit that I barely looked twice at Matrix Biolage Sugar Shine when it came in the post but thanks to my entire household helping themselves to my Aveda Pure Abundance (if you see a particularly volumised family, it’s mine) it seemed the next best option. So, I used the shampoo, the conditioner and followed that on with the Sugar Shine Treatment. It’s the latter that is the most impressive, although I’ve used it now both with and without the accompanying shampoo and conditioner and do feel the result is marginally better if you use all the Sugar Shines together although it’s not totally essential.
And yes, there is a downside. One little vial of this as seen above is £13.50 (on offer HERE for £12) and I’m not even sure how it’s working, quite, because information is rather scanty but I can tell you that it definitely, definitely works to give a mega shine. I did my first treatment just before I went on holiday, and my second when I came home and the shine doesn’t really start to disappear for a couple of days at least, so I’m thinking of it as a special occasion treat. If you’re planning on colouring your hair or having it coloured, don’t use this for at least 48 hours before you do it. To use, you apply for five minutes after you’ve shampoo’d and conditioned as normal, and sadly, unless your hair is super short, there is no way it will stretch to two treatments from one vial. Generally, the Matrix Sugar Shine Lacquer is offered only in salons but I’ve found it online and it’s perfectly safe for you to do at home.
Bear in mind that my hair is brunette – blonde hair won’t pick up as much shine because it doesn’t get the same light reflection on it as darker strands do.

I’m struggling to find the 3 for 2 on matrix on the FU site … can you help?
So sorry.. the FU site has 20% off across the range… Look Fantastic has 3 for 2 but they’ve got Sugar Shine Serum incorrectly on their site..showing a box of the serum for £12 approx when it’s just one item.. or should be. Lots of confusion on this product because it’s not obvious that it’s only one vial.. so I went for the one with the most clarity… I will amend and thanks for flagging. x
Thank you!! Still going to try the range – my hair needs all the help it can get 😉
Have you ever tried john frieda’s gloss. It gives my hair mega shine
hmm I think I have.. but can’t honestly remember – but 10 Day Straight really works for my hair.. love that one.
It’s £12 for a box of TEN vials! Works out much better than feared. Except now I’ve got 20 vials of the stuff – let’s hope it works!
I think they’ve priced it wrongly..that was a lucky break for you so I might order more too!!
