[sample/affiliate] I posted about the new Ameliorate sensitive scalp range, glibly stating that I don’t have sensitive scalp and yet, just over a month later, my head is so itchy it’s driving me mad. To the point I thought I might have nits!
Thankfully, it’s not that (although like many mums, I have had them!) and while I was at my local hairdresser she told me that she is seeing so many people at the moment with dry and itchy scalps. So, it’s not just me. But, it’s the first time it’s ever happened (aside from the nits) and I don’t like it at all. It’s not so bad that I think it’s anything more than having the central heating on and wearing a woolly hat a lot (which I’ve reluctantly stopped wearing as often and it has helped) combined with colder weather. So, this little bottle of soothing scalp essence is sitting on my desk and working an absolute treat with taking the urgency out of itching when it strikes, particularly at the back of my head. I’ve also been using the shampoo and conditioner and there is improvement in the level of itch. Annoyingly and for no clear reason, the essence is only available at the moment as part of the £45 kit (although 20% off takes some of the sting out) HERE, non affiliate HERE. Given that I feel the shampoo and conditioner is also helping perhaps it’s not so bad.
The formula uses frankincense extract (no fragrance) but I think that the brand’s patented LaH6 is doing the hard work in balancing the scalp’s pH and calming things down.

Wow thank you for sharing this Jane, this (and the rest of the set) sounds EXACTLY what I need right now. I wonder what’s causing us the dry/flaky spell differently to any other winter :-/
That’s what I was wondering because it hasn’t happened before – I get flaking from time to time but not the itching… that’s a new surprise I wasn’t expecting!
Hi Jane,
I suffer from chronic itchy scalp and have tried every shampoo on the market – PK, Phyto, living proof, Ouai – nothing seemed to help. In desperation on Friday I tried my husbands Head and Shoulders 2 in 1 and its fantastic – Relief from the first wash. I can’t believe it after all the money I’ve spent ! X
I am a big fan of Head & Shoulders – in the past when I’ve had flaking, I’ve used it and still do every now and again, but not the 2-in-1 version I must admit. It was the itching that was driving me mad and I did try the H&S I have and while it helped with the flakes, not so much the itch. I’ve seen that they have a soothing itch serum in the US so hoping it will make its way over here pronto.
Hi Jane, this is so what has been happening to me, it’s been driving me mad and the same thoughts were going through my head but my child is 16 so nits are usually over by then! I’ve ordered the set, so fingers crossed it works for me too. Thank you.
Weird that there is such an outbreak of itchy heads isn’t it! Hope it works for you – I found second wash was more effective than first and things got better and better. I still have some slight itching but it’s not at the level it was by any means. Also, if you’re wearing a hat every day try not to!
Sounds great! Would it be ok for coloured hair? I don’t know what looks worse, grey roots or a flaky scalp!
Yes I think it would be fine.. certainly not stripping.
Not sure if this is relevant but I started getting a very itchy head and scalp a few years ago after no problems at all – wasn’t colourant allergy, tried different shampoos, conditioners, scalp treatments etc but to no avail so I concluded it was probably one of my medications as it does get worse when I take the stronger ones. I then had to have ultrasound of a lump on my neck and the specialist there confirmed it was enlarged lymph node but checked the rest of my neck at the same time. Out of the blue he asked if I had an itchy head and when I said I did he said that a couple of the lymph nodes that were enlarged seemed to cause an itchy head. It might well be that at this time of year people are fighting off infection and the lymph nodes are working overtime, including the itchy head causing ones. Just a theory!
Wow that makes total sense… because I actually have swollen glands on one side of my neck – that’s not unusual for me so not anything to worry about but I am suspicious about my flu jab that made me really ill just after I had it.. (but I haven’t had flu!). I wonder if its exactly what you suggest. I like your theory!
