[unpaid/ad/self-purchased] A few weeks ago, I hitched a USA-UK postage ride with Chloe from @ladywrites_blog and ordered some Wonder Water (it’s not available in the UK and there is no planned launch this year – I checked). I came across lamellar technology for hair with Kerastase K Water a couple of months ago (it launched in 2019 as a salon treatment) and wondered how it would filter down to more affordable brands within the L’Oreal family. I have a feeling that lamellars will be the hit of next year when we’ve settled down.

I think you should perceive lamellar waters as a water-activated cosmetic shine rinse for hair. I’m having trouble translating the meaning of lamellar to a hair product but it can be explained I think as layers (lamellae, in this case comprising amino acids and protein) that deliver nourishment and bind to damaged areas of hair.

The theory is that you aren’t coating your hair in the same way as you would with a standard conditioner other than with a lightweight top coat that’s delivering only where needed. It leaves your hair soft and swishy with a smoothing action that allows for more shine. When I tested it over the weekend I definitely noticed more swish although my family decided that my hair didn’t look particularly more shiny (I thought it did!) and there is a kind of lightness in weight to my hair that wasn’t there previously. I kind of gave up conditioners a while back and my hair does feel a lot better for having 8 Second Wonder in it. Oh, you apply after washing onto wet hair and rinse off. My bottle is segmented into 20ml doses via a measuring label on the back. The instructions say that you might feel a warming sensation, but I didn’t feel that at all.

Anyway, it was approx $10 which feels extremely reasonable a finish that feels as though you’ve been to the hairdresser and hopefully, we’ll see it in 2021 as a launch to look forward to. L’Oreal has this particular lamellar patented and I did notice a couple of other brands using the term lamellar but they won’t be exactly the same as this one (which obviously doesn’t mean worse, it just means a bit different in some sciencey way).

the use of this amino acid Lamellar complex in K Water is a global first. Activated by water, Lamellar Technology starts working the second it comes in contact with wet hair and unlike previous treatment formulae which could leave the hair feeling heavy, this penetrates just where needed, to shield the hair fibre with an ultra-fine and lightweight topcoat.
