[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I know that so many people are having sleep disruption at the moment – sleep is so complicated. I dreamed about Honey for the first time since she died the other night and Mr BBB was found using the torch on his phone looking for something in the bed that, as it turned out, he had dreamed about and couldn’t remember what it was anyway. I’ve often recommended podcasts as a way to at least get something productive out of those 3am awakenings and I still am a fan of that (although I put one on a couple of days ago that made me laugh so much that it kept me awake more – The Off Menu podcast and confusion over Tiger Bread and whether Giraffe Bread exists or perhaps they were thinking of baguettes…).
Finding something you associate strongly with sleep or relaxation is the very best bit of pre-sleep prep you can do – your olfactory system is so complex and sophisticated that it can be a key part of your rest. I have properly gone off chamomile other than when it is given the lightest possible hand so I appreciate that The Body Shop Sleep Collection uses vetiver and lavender as their mainstay essential oils using lavender from France (fertiliser and irrigation free) and Madagascan vetiver.
These new products are so nicely fragranced being punchy with lavender without being sickly – there’s an earthy note that’s rather soothing (and it’s not chamomile!). The scent isn’t the only punchy thing about this – it’s £25 which feels like a lot for The Body Shop.
It’s deliciously silkening I must admit and the lavender wafts are extra lovely when your skin warms up under the covers but I think perhaps careful selection from this range won’t do any harm if certain products feel less accessible.
I think I’d probably put my pennies towards the Pillow Mist – just as potent as the Body Balm and feels very reasonable at £18 HERE because you only need the littlest puff of it. If this becomes your sleep association scent, it won’t really matter how you take it in – the body love is a very nice thing to do for yourself in the form of body washes and balms but what you really need is the olfactory brain ping to tell your whirring mind to start calming the heck down. The European Sleep Centre has given this collection its seal of approval and I do feel that the product quality and attention to detail is excellent across the board so any or all is worth a splash out if you feel it will be the thing that just eases you into sleep or relaxation.
The Sleep Collection is one of three Wellness collections from The Body Shop – the other two are Boost and Breathe and I’m looking forward to trying both the others. Anything that helps to centre yourself, to make mindful moments that benefit your wellbeing or that soothe frayed emotions is an investment in coping. We have a lot to think about right now, but the most productive and helpful thinking comes from a solid base which is the best point to help others and yourself. The range is HERE.

I’ll definitely have a sniff of this at the weekend as sleep scents without chamomile are hard to come by as even if they don’t have it in the title, I often find it lurking in the ingredients list. My nose seems hardwired to seek out chamomile scent like a bloodhound and then I spend the night feeling nauseous instead of sleepy!
I scoured the ingredient lists and didn’t spot it so I really don’t think it’s there.. it made me wonder if it’s hard to sustainably source or something.
